BE Wok and Sushi

764 Mono Way

Sonora, CA 95370

Oh my what to say about BeWok. The food is usually pretty good, although VERY overpriced for what you get. So on the few occasions you get un-cooked paper chicken or hard as a rock Sweet and Sour Pork its irritating.  The staff is fairly rude and un-accomodating (just dont ask them for spicy mustard an hour before closing time I guess) and of course, they speak very little english.
The sushi/sashimi is FANTASTIC, best place around although they dont really have any competition for fresh sushi.
So for Sonora, its ok. It's edible, but for 2 plates, fried rice and chow mein dont expect to get out under 40 bucks.

Perko's Cafe

824 Mono Way
Sonora CA 95370

A local favorite, will be particularly busy on Sundays, but have an experienced staff who can keep up with the flow. There usually isn't a wait to be seated or for food but there is almost always people eating there.

The food is decent although a little overpriced, your best bet is to get the Pick your Meal on the seperate menu, I believe its 5 or 6$ for a good sized breakfast lunch or dinner. The staff is nice, comfortable atmosphere, and its very family friendly.

They used to have the best pies and cakes around but unfortunatly the lady retired and now their deserts are overpriced and dont taste nearly as good.

I'll share the 2 Dinner experiences we've had there.
First time we went late, at 730pm. The service was great, food arrived within a decent time and was pretty good, got the ribs.
Second time we arrived at 610pm, were seated right away and ordered at 620.  However we didnt see our food until 720pm. We all ordered Combos, the ribs and tri tip were outstanding but the BBQ shrimp tasted it had been cooked in a microwave, sat out for awhile, and then re-heated. Absolutly terrible. Our waiter was nice enough, a little scattered, when I told him about the shrimp he offered to bring some fresh out, about 20 minutes later he brought out the new order of them and again they were TERRIBLE. So the chefs just dont know how to cook shrimp. They were also out of to-go containers.
The atmosphere was ok, it *felt* chaotic like the staff didnt know what they were doing, hopefully they'll get that down over time.

Pros: Great Ribs and Tri Tip at a decent price. Good portions.

Cons: Long wait time, either before your seated or after you've ordered, possibly both. Not a large selection of beer.

So overall, I would skip dinner unless its to-go, you don't mind waiting, or its after 730pm, and stay away from the BBQ shrimp no matter how tempting.
